Academic and Social Experience

Copy of IHU

  • Students will be required to take a four credit First-Year Seminar (FYS) course.
    • Students will have two FYS courses available to select from and will be given priority for registration in the course they select.
    • Students will also have a one-credit discussion attached to their FYS course. This course will meet on Wednesdays from 4 to 5:15 PM throughout the fall semester.
  • Students will immediately be assigned to an advisor within the Office for Academic and Pre-Professional Advising.
  • Students will also meet with a staff member in the Office of Undergraduate Education as needed, but at least twice a semester; this point of contact is meant to supplement their work with their advisor.
  • Faculty and staff teaching either an FYS or the General Education/ IHU will also be expected to engage and assist students in the program by participating in at least two out-of-class activities.

  • Students participating in the program will live together in a residence hall on campus.
  • Within the residence halls, the RA as well as the peer mentors, former DS LLC participants, will work together to foster a welcoming environment for students as well as engage with them on a regular basis.
  • The RA and/or the peer mentor will notify students of events and encourage participation and attendance.
  • Social / additional activities will include: learning about campus, attending athletic events, learning about the local community and Baltimore, etc.
